- 3 cups leftover garlic mashed potatoes
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup finely chopped white onion
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/3 cup cooked and crumbled bacon or bacon bits
- Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
PREPARATION
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce using two forks or your hands.
- Season the mixture generously with salt and pepper, then mix in the breadcrumbs and egg.
- Transfer the ground beef mixture to an 8-inch square baking dish and press it into an even layer.
- Spread the mashed potatoes on top of the ground beef mixture, then sprinkle with cheddar cheese and bacon bits.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the oven. Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
