- Preheat your oven to 400º F and have a large bowl of ice water ready next to your workspace.
- Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the green beans for 4-6 minutes, or until they turn vibrant green and become tender-crisp.
- Transfer the cooked green beans immediately to the ice bath to halt the cooking process. Drain them once they’ve cooled and place them in a spacious baking dish. An 11×7-inch dish is a suitable size.
- Melt the unsalted butter in a medium-sized pan or skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté the finely chopped onion in the melted butter until it softens, which should take around 4 minutes.
- Stir in the flour and garlic powder, cooking for an additional minute until the mixture is smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the sour cream to the skillet and cook until the mixture begins to simmer.
- Pour the creamy sour cream mixture evenly over the green beans in the baking dish, ensuring they are all well coated. Sprinkle the grated mozzarella cheese generously over the top.
- Place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake for 20-22 minutes, or until the cheese turns golden and bubbly.
- Once out of the oven, allow the Cheesy Sour Cream Green Bean Bake to cool for approximately 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
